The Serbian Ministry of Culture officially thanked TRADUKI at the Leipzig Book Fair 2011 for its contribution in promoting literature from Serbia in German-speaking countries. Antje Contius, representing the network, accepted the Ivo Andrić Gold Coin, which was first awarded to Ivo Andrić on the 50th anniversary of the granting of the Nobel Prize.

This year South Eastern Europe is showcased with a wealth of previously unpresented topics, authors, readings, discussions and evening events at the Leipzig Book Fair and at “Leipzig reads”.

On 15th March 2011 the event “Extract from the mausoleum ‒ Three spotlights on  Serbian literature of the present day took place in the Cologne Literary House, supported by TRADUKI and the Serbian Ministry of Culture.

Following on from the Leipzig Book Fair the review, “Minor languages – Great literature”, is taking place on 21st March 2011 at 8 pm in the Berlin Literary Workshop under the title “European Moments.” This year the review focuses on the Leipzig book Fair, “Serbia” and on Croatia. Readings will be by: Nada Gašić (Croatia), Jovan Nikolić (Cologne) and Zoran Živković (Serbia). The event is moderated by the literary critic Joachim Scholl.

The Split daily newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija has published an interview with Dejan Čančarević, in which the Serbian poet relates his impressions while grant-holder of the “Marko Marulić” residential programme in Split. “I have primarily experienced life in Split as a place where human experiences and stories interconnect, as groups of people, individuals, and exchanged words.” He has long wanted to get to know life in Split, remarks Čančarević, so for him the residence has been the making of a dream come true.

Another sad piece of news reached the TRADUKI team today: On 18th February the Croatian publisher and literary translator Danijela Tkalec died at just 48 years of age.

Danijela Tkalec rendered outstanding services to Croatian culture. In addition to many well-known works she also translated Goethe’s Farbenlehre (title of the English translation: Theory of Colours) and Gott schauen [See God] by Hildegard von Bingen. For TRADUKI she worked on the translation of Hitlers Volksstaat: Raub, Rassenkrieg und nationaler Sozialismus [Hitler’s People’s State: Robbery, Racial War and National Socialism] (Götz Aly), which will be published shortly by Fraktura.
