Summer School „History Takes Place“ in Sarajevo und Belgrad

528 zeitstiftungThe ZEIT-Stiftung invites young researchers to participate in the summer school History Takes Place – Dynamics of Urban Change that will take place between September 4 and 15 and will focus on the complex and multi-layered history of Belgrade and Sarajevo. The summer school is aimed at doctoral students – historians, art historians, archaeologists, cultural and social scientists, city planners and architects. Sessions will be held in English. Deadline for applications: May 29, 2017.

Sarajevo Debate on Europe

524b sarajevoParticipants from 14 European countries came together in Sarajevo on April 26 and 27 to discuss on the topic Europe in Identity Catch? Revival of National Movements and the Idea of Europe. The panel discussion was another in the Debates on Europe series, initiated in 2012 by the S. Fischer Foundation, the Allianz Cultural Foundation and the German Academy for Language and Poetry and organized in alternating cities. Partner of the Sarajevo event were Goethe-Institut Bosnia and Herzegovina and TRADUKI with the support of the German Foreign Office.

Book Presentation on May 23 in Vienna: Beyond Nostalgia and Damnation. What is Left of Tito's Yugoslavia?

526 titoWith the title Beyond nostalgia and damnation. What is left of Tito’s Yugoslavia, the Slovenian historian Jože Pirjevec will present his biography Tito and Comrades that was published in German translation in 2016. The presentation and discussion is organized by KulturKontakt Austria, a member of TRADUKI network, in cooperation with the Austrian Institute for International Affairs (oiip). The subsequent panel discussion will deal with the legacy of Yugoslavia and with contradictions about Tito and his time.
