The Dialektik der Aufklärung (title of the English translation: Dialectic of Enlightenment), written jointly by Max Horkheimer and Theodor W. Adorno in American exile is regarded as one of the most important texts of Critical Theory and is a classic of the philosophy of the 20th century. Philosophical criticism, conflict with fascism and the results of many years of empirical investigations in the USA merge into a theory of modern mass culture. With extremely reflective acuity the authors highlight the downside of technical and social progress: “Enlightenment” as the mastery of reason, as submission to nature under human aims, is itself clarified.

Dialektik der Aufklärung by Theodor W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer has been translated into Romanian (excerpt) by Andrei Corbea-Hoişie under the title Dialectica Luminilor, published by Polirom, Iaşi.
