kermani navid by villa massimo© Villa MassimoNavid Kermani was born in 1967 and is a professor of Oriental studies. Until 2003, he was a long term Fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg of Berlin. He now lives as a freelance writer in Cologne. He received several awards for his academic as well as literary work. He is member of the German Academy for Language and Literature and the German Islam Conference. In 2008, he was appointed a Permanent Fellow of the House of Cultures of the World in Berlin. In 2009, he became a Permanent Fellow of the Cultural-Science Institute of Essen and elected to the Academy of Sciences of Hamburg.
