First Ardian Klosi Prize awarded in Tirana


281 ardian vehbiuFrom April 23rd to 27th, 2014, the Festival of Books and Arts that took place in Tirana on the initiative of the Albanian Book Society. Within the festival, the Ardian Klosi Prize, endowed by the S. Fischer Foundation in cooperation with TRADUKI, was awarded for the first time. The first winner was Ardian Vehbiu whose text Sende që nxirrte deti was selected as the best journalistic work of 2013.

The Prime Minister Edi Rama, Minister of Culture Mirela Kumbaro, Ardian Klosi’s spouse Jutta Benzenberg, Klosi’s family, as well as numerous publishers, translators, readers and intellectuals were present in the award ceremony.

The idea for the books and arts festival was developed two years ago under the direction of Ardian Klosi. The first edition saw the participation of publishers of Albanian literature from Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia, and was supported by the Albanian Ministry of Cultrue, the Art Gallery of Kosovo, and TRADUKI. With Klosi’s death on April 26th, 2012, TRADUKI lost a distinguished partner and an indispensable precursor for the literary exchange between Germany and Albania. Beside the Ardian Klosi Prize, the S. Fischer Stiftung will devote one of the „Schritte“ fellowships in Berlin in Klosi’s honour to a translator from German to Albanian who will be invited to the Literary Colloquium Berlin (Applications each year in autumn).
