Štefica Martić was born in 1945 in Derventa, Bosnia and Herzegovina. She studied literature and literary theory in Belgrade where she had been living for many years, working for the Goethe Institute. As a side job, she was a literary translator. Since 1993, she has been living as a freelance translator in Zagreb. She is a member of the Croatian Literary Translators’ Association. She published many articles in various literary magazines, above all translations of contemporary German-speaking authors, as well as numerous book translations, among others works by Peter Bichsel, Thomas Hürlimann, Wolfgang Eschker, Daniel Kehlmann, Katja Lange-Müller, Thomas Mann, Said, Bernhard Schlink, Peter Sloterdijk, Richard Swartz, Christa Wolf and Juli Zeh.
