boytchev hristoHristo Boytchev, born in 1950, is considered one of the most well-known playwrights in Bulgaria. A year after the opening of his first play, called Что-то [Something], in 1984, he took up his Dramaturgy Studies, which he completed in 1989. His plays have been performed on more than a hundred stages in well over forty countries in Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Australia. One of his most celebrated works is the play Солдат и птицы [The Colonel Bird], with which he won the international playwriting competition of the British Council in 1997. On the contemporary European dramaturgy scene, Hristo Boytchev is considered an heir to Beckett and Ionesco, following in their footsteps.
