In memoriam – Clemens-Peter Haase

The sad news of the death of the Head of Literary and Translation Promotion at the Goethe Institute, Clemens-Peter Haase, reached us on 14^th July 2011. Mr Haase was an important companion to us in various projects and was committed with great dedication to the Traduki network from the start. Even his severe illness didn’t prevent him from taking part in our joint work; at sessions of the executive committee and the programme judging panel in April of this year in Vienna he enriched our meeting both with his expert knowledge and his convivial nature..

While studying Modern History, Sociology, Political Sciences and German Philology Clemens-Peter Haase became attracted to Finland, which became his second home. Finland was also his first posting outside Germany in his Goethe Institute career, after he had gained teaching experience in Bremen. After four years as Institute Manager in Tampere and a short interlude in Bremen Clemens-Peter Haase went to Sofia as Institute Director.

In both places he succeeded in creating a network of contacts with the German literary business, with inventive programmes in the area of literature. Clemens-Peter Haase also established an integrated plan for translation promotion in Bulgaria.

Clemens-Peter Haase will be greatly missed.
