Alice Miller, born in 1923 in Poland, studied Philosophy, Psychology and Sociology in Basle. After obtaining her Ph.D. she trained as a psychoanalyst in Zurich and practised this profession for 20 years. In 1980 she gave up her practice and teaching work in order to write. Since then she has pubished 13 books, in which she made known the results of her research into childhood to the wider public. She understood her search for the reality of childhood to be in sharp contrast to psychoanalysis, which according to the old tradition accuses the child and excuses the parents. Alice Miller died on 14th April 2010 at the age of 87 years.
