For the start of this year’s writers in residence program run by the association KROKODIL, three writers came to Belgrade with the support of TRADUKI. Each of them spent four weeks in Writers' House working on their new manuscripts and presenting their work to the Belgrade audience. The first guest in January was the writer Lejla Kalamujić from Sarajevo, whose book Zovite me Esteban raised a lot of attention.
This year’s first guest of the writers in residence program Tirana in Between, organized by Poeteka and supported by TRADUKI, was the Albanian poet Daim Miftari from Macedonia. During his stay, he emerged into the cultural life of Tirana. Students of the Faculty of Dramaturgy performed his poetry. Together with Arian Leka, who teaches at the Arts Academy, he held two lectures on cross-border cultural identity of Albanians.
More than 130 visitors came to listen to the presentation of Tito’s biography Tito in tovariši written by the Slovenian historian Jože Pirjevec. The title of the event was Beyond Nostalgia and Damnation. What is Left of Tito’s Yugoslavia. The panelists spoke lively about what make Tito who he was, why many still today worship him while many condemn him, and what made him different from other rulers of his time. Topics of the discussion were among others his relations with third world countries and the lack of dealing with the past in relation to the World War II. The book presentation and discussion was organized by KulturKontakt Austria in the framework of TRADUKI in cooperation with the Austrian Institute for International Affairs (oiip).
